Mother's Day - The Gift of Time

Yesterday, after letting me "sleep in", my husband asked me what I wanted to do for Mother's Day.  We have had a sick and very cranky toddler the past two weekends and going out for brunch or anywhere for that matter just wasn't going to be an enjoyable event.  So we sat around struggling to come up with something to do.  As I sat on the couch looking at all the half finished projects and mess around the house, I said "You know what would be great?  If I could just spend the day cleaning!"  <---- What a crazy thing to say, right?!  Well with a full-time job, a LONG commute, and a husband with an opposite schedule I barely have time to do the necessities each week.  I'm lucky to do laundry and dishes.  Big cleaning jobs?!  HA!

So that's exactly what I did.  I cleaned my car. We LIVE in the car!  I removed outfits, at least 10 pairs of shoes, cups, trash, and vaccuumed up what had to be 5 boxes of Cherrios.  Disgusting!  I even removed and washed the car seat cover.  I really didn't even know I was supposed to do that!  My poor child.

I moved inside and worked on going through a big stack of paper in our kitchen.  Everything was sorted, tossed, and put in a proper location.

I cleaned off the top of the washer and dryer.  I've had a bag of maternity clothes in there forever that needed to be returned to a friend.  I mean, it's been a year and half since I was pregnant!  Now I can fold and sort laundry in the laundry room instead of trying to race to fold them on the couch before my son grabs all the clothes and takes off running.  Go figure!

Finally, I worked on our home management binder.  We really are disorganized and I've been looking for ways to steamline our house for a while.  We forget to pay bills.  We let gift cards and checks expire because we forget we have them.  <--- what?!  I mean, we aren't rolling in dough here, we need that money!  I have father's day cards on the counter from LAST YEAR that never got mailed out!  I thought a binder would help up.  So, I printed up a bunch of templates from Pinterest, bought a cute binder and some clear page covers and just got to it.  We have a section for incoming bills; a page to track bills that are paid each month; a monthly calendar; a section to house all our gifts and gift cards; a section for warranties; and some pantry and freezer inventories.  I hope it works.
